Bijlmerbajes (2018)
In 2018, I worked as a volunteer in ‘Het Tijdelijk Museum’, which was located in the former Penitentiaire Inrichting Amsterdam Over-Amstel, better known as Bijlmerbajes. This penitentiary housed some of The Netherlands’ most infamous criminals like Willem Holleeder and Ferdi Elsas. In 2021 – 2022, the Bijlmer Bajes will be transformed into a housing project. Before the demolition of the Bijlmer Bajes, I wanted to preserve the atmosphere and history of this remarkable building through a series of photographs. For Creators By Vice, I took digital photographs of the interior as well as the exterior of the prison and the cell blocks.
Because of my voluntary job as a tour guide, I had access to old parts of the prison that were closed off to the public. I edited the images as to underline the eerie atmosphere of the historical building.
The photo series was shared by Creators By Vice on their website accompanied with a interview.
